The Louis Erard X Konstantin Chaykin Unfrogettable Brown 85340AA04.BVA193 takes the concept in a warmer direction. A light brown grained base is joined by dark brown counters and a two-tone dark brown and ochre minute ring. The hour and minute discs receive a warm 5N finish, complemented by dark brown lacquered pupils and green luminescent details.
They are recognisably part of the same collection, but the use of colour gives each watch a very different presence on the wrist.
A 40mm Grade 5 Titanium Case
Surrounding the unusual dial is a sculptural 40mm case manufactured from Grade 5 titanium.
Louis Erard combines satin-finished planes with polished curves, giving the case definition while keeping it lightweight on the wrist. It measures 46.50mm lug-to-lug and 12.45mm thick.
Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides provides a clear view of the dial, while the automatic movement can be seen through a transparent caseback. Water resistance is rated to 5 bar, or 50 metres.
One of the most entertaining details is positioned at 12 o'clock.
The winding crown is itself shaped like a royal crown, transforming a functional component into another part of the character. The Turquoise model uses a polished Grade 5 titanium crown, while the Brown version adds a warm 5N PVD treatment.
Sellita SW266-1 Automatic Regulator Movement
Behind the expressive dial is serious Swiss mechanical watchmaking.
Both Louis Erard X Konstantin Chaykin Unfrogettable watches are powered by the automatic Sellita SW266-1 regulator calibre.
The elaborated grade movement features 31 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, and provides approximately 38 hours of power reserve.
Louis Erard has also fitted a specially openworked oscillating weight featuring the Louis Erard symbol in black lacquer. The movement remains visible through the exhibition caseback, allowing the mechanical side of the Unfrogettable to remain part of the experience.
Each caseback is engraved "LOUIS ERARD KONSTANTIN CHAYKIN 1 OF 178", reflecting the very limited production of each colour.
Japanese Himeji Kurozan Leather
The attention to unusual materials continues with the strap.
Both watches are fitted with black Himeji Kurozan leather, sometimes referred to as black diamond leather. Sourced from a historic tannery in Japan, the calf leather is naturally tanned, hand-rubbed and finished using traditional Urushi lacquer.
The process creates a distinctive combination of matte and glossy textures that complements the unusual character of the watch.
The Turquoise Unfrogettable adds purple stitching around the lugs and a purple leather lining, connecting the strap to the purple elements of the dial. The Brown edition remains black both outside and inside, giving it a darker and more understated appearance.
Both use quick-release spring bars and a polished Grade 5 titanium pin buckle.
