About Bell & Ross Watches
When discussing luxury military watches, certain names stand apart—and Bell & Ross watches are unquestionably among them. The brand was born from a university project shared by two students, Bruno Belamich and Carlos Rosillo, who in 1992 shared a clear vision: to create wristwatches that combined absolute functionality with exceptional toughness. Drawing inspiration from aviation, military operations, diving commandos, and field missions, Bell & Ross watches were conceived as professional instruments first and foremost, shaped by the principles of precision, legibility, and reliability.
In its early years, the cases of Bell & Ross watches were manufactured by the German specialist Sinn Spezialuhren. Some of these early models even featured “Bell & Ross by Sinn” on their dials, while others were adaptations of existing Sinn designs, including the Space 1—the first chronometer worn in space in 1984. These formative collaborations helped establish the technical credibility that would later define the Bell & Ross watch identity.
Bell & Ross soon began developing its own purpose-built watches, such as the Bell & Ross Type Demineur, a model still produced by Sinn but designed specifically for the French Security Services’ bomb disposal units. A defining turning point arrived in 2002, when Bell & Ross transitioned watch development to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, marking the brand’s full entry into Swiss watchmaking. This evolution culminated in 2005 with the release of the iconic Bell & Ross BR 01 watch—a design instantly recognisable among thousands of Swiss watches and a true cornerstone of the brand.
The BR 01 watch represented Bell & Ross’ declaration of independence. Inspired by military aircraft cockpit instruments, its round dial set within a square case echoed the design of aviation dashboards, complete with four functional screws at each corner—mirroring how panels were secured in vintage aircraft cockpits. This bold yet minimalist design resonated deeply with collectors who appreciated the complexity behind apparent simplicity. The BR 01 watch was soon released in multiple variations, firmly establishing Bell & Ross as a distinctive force in luxury military watchmaking.
Alongside its instrument watches, Bell & Ross developed a Vintage watch collection, paying tribute to key moments in aviation history and aeronautical exploration. This collection spans three generations of military-inspired watches: the first featuring classical dials and rounded lugs; the second with larger cases, pronounced bezels, and angular lugs reminiscent of the BR 01; and a third generation that returned to a more compact, streamlined profile. Models such as the Bell & Ross BR V1, BR V2, and BR V3 watches are designed to meet armed forces requirements for precision, legibility, and operational performance.
The Bell & Ross Instrument watch category remains the brand’s most recognisable family, encompassing square-cased models such as the BR 01, BR 02, BR 03, and BR 04 watches. Expanding this design language further, the Bell & Ross BR 05 watch introduced a rounded case with an integrated bracelet, blending the brand’s instrument DNA with a more contemporary, urban aesthetic. These watches were developed through close collaboration between designers, aviation specialists, and aerospace control experts to meet the demands of professional use.
From the outset, Bell & Ross aspired to belong among the elite of Swiss watchmaking while remaining true to its professional, military-focused roots. Today, Bell & Ross watches continue to honour this vision, offering a diverse and ever-evolving catalogue of luxury military watches that balance technical mastery with unmistakable design.
