Italo Fontana, Creator of U-BOAT, has always been intrigued by ocean diver’s devices and modules. Recently, he introduced the U-1001 watch boasting a pressure escape valve enabling the case to withstand the water pressure at a depth of 1001 meters.

Bathyspheras were special chambers designed for deep-sea exploration. First envisioned in 1928, a traditional bathysphere had the general rounded appearance of a sphere, and was equipped with watertight, pressure-resistant windows, making it easier to protect the module and keep the pressure at a level acceptable for humans. This allowed the occupants to observe the terrain and marine life surrounding the chamber. Today Italo introduced the Batisfera watch, directly inspired by the shape of the earliest deep-sea capsules. In its novelty, from the Hesalyte glass, raised above the bezel, to its anchor bolts and the crown system, more complex and less pronounced than on other U-BOAT models, is a reflection of the 1930’s deep-sea chambers.

The Batisfera model boasts a patented system with levers. After the release of the secure crown, when the lever, at the side of the 50 mm titanium case with stainless steel components, is pressed for closing, it pushes the glass onto a gasket. This system prevents any detachment in case of pressure variations. The entire process of glass fastening happens without removing any other parts from the watch apart from the glass.
